ÖZET

The report, published under the theme Perceptions of Syrian Refugees, examines changes in public contact and distance toward refugees by comparing the findings with those of the February 2016 Barometer study conducted on the same topic. Additionally, Yasushi Hazama, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Developing Economies under the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), analyzes the influence of personality types and geographic location on attitudes toward refugees. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabahat Çiğdem Bağcı and Duygu Yurt from Sabancı University explore the public’s perceptions of both realistic and symbolic threats posed by refugees and assess the potential for collective action in response. The report also covers political preferences and the moral index.

Since 2010, KONDA Research has been conducting a monthly series of political and social studies under the name BAROMETER. In each BAROMETER study, in addition to standard questions regularly asked about demographic characteristics, political preferences, and economic expectations, additional questions assess public perceptions and expectations regarding issues on the current agenda. The study forming the basis of the 156th report in the BAROMETER research series was conducted on September 7–8, 2024, through face-to-face interviews with 2,750 individuals in their households across 165 neighborhoods and villages in 93 districts, including provincial centers, in 32 provinces.
